Chanel worked in my Section for many years as well as in HR. I loved how she would come up to visit us just because. Her dedication to the German students that she coordinated was fabulous, she really worked hard and was often over looked for better more secure positions at work. But she took it in her stride and continued to do what she did best.
I will never forget the time she came into work just before the Christmas break 2018, a few days before her world turned upside down. She told us about how she had a few wines the night before and sent the General Manager a long cheeky email about what she thought about the changes happening at work. We just looked at her gobsmacked at the spunk she showed in telling him what was on so many of our minds. I don't know if her illness might have begun to affect her, but we all laughed, good on her for being so sassy.
Chanel came in to see us a few times last year, just to say hi, to have a hug, and I tell you what I have never seen the lunchroom as packed as it was when we had the fund raiser to assist with the family trip to New Zealand. It is testamant to the fact that she touched so many at work, and that we were all so shocked at what was happening to her. That speech she said will always be in my memory...."Christmas was pretty shitty, Santa didn't give me the present I wanted" she said. Everyone was either outwardly crying or full of despair on the inside.
Yes she was an old soul, and often old souls are taken from us too young, maybe so that we learn something, but I wish she was still here, she had all her life ahead of her still.

Beautiful Chanel - How I loved our chats and Sushi Thursdays together. You were always so kind, patient and wise and if you didn't know the answer then you freely admitted it and were always open to other's opinions.
