My wife and I are unable to attend the in-person service today in Sydney as we are in China.
Dad was an incredibly kind person who I came to know and understand better as I grew older.
Growing up and despite challenging circumstances, he attended my school performances at Lithgow Public School, school captain activities at Byron Bay High School, and graduation ceremony at The University of Queensland.
He supervised and provided input to my mathematics homework, financially assisted my tertiary education, and helped shape my view of Australia and the world through our regular discussion of global affairs.
More recently, Dad joined me on a special father-and-son trip to Türkiye in late 2022, he spoke at my wedding in May 2023, and we shared a final special Father's Day together in Erowal Bay in September 2023 with Suzie and Elena.
He was a kind friend that I knew I could always count on being there when I needed him. I miss him greatly.
Dad met my girlfriend (now wife), Elena, for the first time in Beijing, 2019. Below is a photo of the three of us on that day together.
