Saddened to hear of Ron’s passing.
I first met Ron at KVHS (high school). Ron was instantly likeable and with his sardonic (dry) wit could sum up any situation with a couple of words and make us laugh- we did a lot of laughing at high school. A group of us played “touch rugby” during the lunch break, Ron had very good hands and a great pass but didn’t run, only jogged, so it was surprise to discover he was very good at rugby and eventually selected for the 1st XV. Playing in the 1st XV elevated you to a higher status, and attracted admiration from other pupils- especially the girls. If Ron noticed, it never affected him- Ron was really decent “down to earth bloke”. I didn’t see him again after he moved to Australia, but Bruce kept me up to date on what was happening in his life. Sounds like Ron had a lovely family.

Big brother Ron I will miss you heaps. Our mum, Bella, and dad, Tom, I know thought the world of you. We had some great times growing up together at the various fire stations around Dunedin. No matter how much I tried I could not beat you at sports. You were a great brother, a devoted husband and father. You have left behind a family to be proud of. My wife, Kate, and kids, Kristian and Emma, thought the world of you also. It is a sad day in Dunedin, love Bruce.

Treasured in your families heart. You live on in your two beautiful daughters and the four amazing grandchildren you created. May your memories comfort your family and friends.
Rest in Peace Uncle Ron.
