My deepest sympathy to all Jan's children and their families. Jan was my first love when she first started work and our relationship ended without warning or reason given. I have never forgotten her and she has always remained in my heart. While the years have passed, I have never forgotten our couple of years together. We were a couple before our time. I will continue to miss her for the rest of my life. Ron Reid.

HI Cecile, Brendan and Nigel,
Thank you for a lovely service. You would have made Jan proud. I do remember how warm and generous she was and as a young woman I was always impressed of how up to date she was with the Arts and fashion.
I do also remember her love of animals and particularly dogs. Do you remember the boxer that ate the couch at Beauty Point when she was away? Your Mum returned and took it all in her stride as she did with most things bringing up two teenage boys. I also remember what we called the 'banana ski suit' that made an appearance on the slopes when Cecile was skiing in the 90s! Jan always did call a 'spade a spade' and I remember being on the end of some of her very frank advice when I was in my 20s. She was always warm and generous and I am sure we will all miss her.
With love,
Kathy Hendy-Ekers

Aunty Jan,
remembering you today
such good memories
Of school holiday stays
Of buttered toast at midnight
Lifts to and from the beach
A car chase with the ranger
A ski slope chased by a rooster
English mustard on a hotdog
Fireworks in the backyard
Christmas trees and lights
Days filled with laughter
Always quick to smile
Loving and kind
A gentle soul
Grace and peace to you
Love Vijay

I first met Jan when Brendan and I were 15 and in year 10! She and Laurie were always relaxed, easygoing, happy to welcome whoever dropped in at all hours of the day, and it was a very welcoming and loving household. Jan has always been a lot of fun and we all miss her! Justin Bowra [on behalf of my parents and sisters too]

Dear Cecile, Brendan and Nigel,
I first met Jan in 1951 when she moved in across the road with her step grandmother, Mrs Tidy.
Jan was part of our family, coming the sister I always wanted.
We started our secondary education at Princess May Junior High School in 1952. We had a lot of fun traveling to and fro daily by train. We both wanted to do nursing, but were not yet 17.5 yrs of age. While we waited to be old enough, Jan worked at the Bank of NSW (Westpac) and we both lucky to sign on as stewardess on the Norwegian super phosphate ship Fern Plant in 1956. We had a memorable trip up to Christmas Island and back to Albany.
We commenced our training at Royal Perth Hospital in December 1957. We both enjoyed our hospital based training. On graduation, Jan moved to Sydney to do her midwifery, where she subsequently met Laurie. Sadly we never lived in the same State again. We kept in close contact by regular phone calls and infrequent visits, meeting her wonderful family.
Jan was a character, a great friend and a very important part of my life. I will miss her.

Dear Cecile, Brendan and Nigel, I was fortunate to live with Jan during my pregnancy with Shea - up until his 2nd Birthday. She was a brilliant Grandma, supportive, loving and encouraging. She would often collect Shea from infant school providing him afternoon fun and snacks. Jan told it as it was and I recall at first trying to keep my pregnancy secret but she was on to it.... I will miss her.
